e-load up! proof of VW's electric future

Volkswagen premiered a small electric commercial vehicle at the CV Show, the Volkswagen e-load up!

Although there is no immediate plans to sell the e-load up! company executives believe it is a chance to gauge amongst its customers.

As well as canvasing interest in the small city van, Volkswagen hope conversations at the CV Show will reveal if there is an appetite for other electrified LCV models, as well as alternative fuel powertrains.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles director, Carl zu Dohna, said that the technology exists within Volkswagen Group for a number of alternative fuelled vehicle options, but that the decision to exhibit the e-load up! was to determine if there was an appetite amongst UK customers for either a small urban commercial vehicle or similar technology.

At the IAA Hannover commercial vehicle show last September, Volkswagen debuted an electric vehicle concept version of the new Crafter van. The eCrafter concept was seen as a near production ready model, however, Volkswagen said there were no plans at the time to launch the vehicle.
