Next Vito could get hybrid power
Could the Vito be about to get a hybrid powertrain? Mercedes has just unveiled a new plug-in hybrid concept at the Geneva motor show based on the V-Class people mover that shares the same platform as the Vito van.
The V-ision-e concept uses a 207hp petrol engine producing 350Nm of torque paired with an electric motor that produces 118hp and 340Nm of torque, to propel the vehicle to 62mph in a claimed 6.1 seconds. The V-ision-e powertrain is also capable of more than 30 miles of electric only motoring thanks to a 13.5kWh lithium-ion battery and has a combined CO2 emissions output of just 71g/km. There’s also a sliding panoramic roof, foldable tables and reclining executive leather seats.
Mercedes has previously added an electric powertrain to its Vito range when it introduced the Vito e-Cell electric van, and has stated that is plans to add 10 new hybrid vehicles to its range within the next few years. If the V-Class hybrid were to make it into production, a hybrid Vito may well be close behind.
