Renault Master ZE announced

Renault is expanding its range of electric light commercial vehicles with the addition of a new zero emission Renault Master van.

The 3.5-tonne van is fully electric and joins the Kangoo ZE and Renault Twizy in the French manufacturer’s range of electric vehicles.

Equipped with a 57kW (76hp) electric motor and a new 33kWh battery pack, the Master has a claimed range of 124 miles (200km), however, in real world operations that number is said to be closer to 63 miles. Capable of a maximum payload of up to 1,100kg, the Master will be available with four body types, three lengths and two heights, giving it a carrying capacity ranging from 8m3 to 22m3.

It is expected that the majority of uptake will be from the parcel sector, who will look to use a full electric 3.5-tonne vehicle as a solution to zero emissions last mile delivery. Eric Feunteun, vice president of the Renault Electric Vehicle Programme, believes that fleet customers looking to buy a zero emissions Master are less focused on maximising its payload potential and will instead be looking to use the higher capacity offered over its Kangoo ZE van. The limited real world range will also not be an issue for its planned customers as the structured nature of their work and the need to return to base will allow the Master ZE to receive a full charge in six hours from a 7kW supply.
